This image is from the 1960 Democratic National Convention held in Los Angeles, California held July 11 - July 15. The image was shot above a group of supporters for William Stuart Symington, long-time senator from Missouri. Symington finished third in the delegate Roll Call Vote to John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson in the convention. The image was apparently made from a remotely-triggered camera mounted high above the group. The photographer himself, Oliver Atkins, was caught in his photograph and can be seen in the bottom center looking upward at the camera, most likely checking to determine whether or not the shutter released and/or flash fired.
