Formerly known as Public Relations, University Relations is the primary communication center and contact point for information about the university. This collection reflects a time when the office produced all of the press releases on paper. Much of the communication is now disseminated electronically.

Scope and Content

This collection contains printed press releases, public service announcements, and calendar items with important dates for events and meetings from the George Mason University Office of University Relations. The collection is organized by year and contains contents that document University life and other events around campus from 1956 to 1997. More specifically the collection covers issues pertaining to student life and academics; important milestones for the University; announcements related to University faculty, staff, and development; sports announcements, and important dates for events relating to the arts.

Some of the documents included in this collection are announcements for undergraduate and graduate students on the dean's list as well as candidates for Master's Degrees; scholarship and administrative appointment announcements, mentions of university policy changes and expansions, university alerts pertaining to road closings, power outages, and safety around campus; mentions of summer school dates and exam schedules; announcements of sporting events and wins; mentions of faculty and staff being honored; as well as arts events, conferences, workshops, and festival notices; among other items.
