Preserved in University Libraries' Special Collections & Archives, George Mason University Archives comprise the official, permanent papers and historical documents of the University. The University Archives not only documents the day-to-day workings of the University, but they provide insight into Mason's growth from an eight-room elementary school campus with seventeen students in 1957 to a multi-campus system with over 30,000 students. The collection contains papers from administrative units, university and student publications, and photography and audivisual materials.

Types of materials in the George Mason University Archives Collection include:

Administrative Papers - Administrative and Executive Offices including: Office of the President, Alumni Affairs, Centers and Institutes, Facilities Planning, Office of the Provost, Faculty Councils, Senate Faculty, Student Groups and Clubs; Intercollegate Athletics including: game programs, press guides, men's basketball; Libraries; Public Relations, including official photogaphs, press releases, news and media clippings, and Statistical Information and Self Assessment.
